I’m a knitter. I subscribe to the zen of knitting as a relaxation method. The clicking needles, the repetitive patterns, the play of color and texture… mmm, and then there’s the finished project to cap off the joy of the process of knitting.
How amazing it is to make a sock! Somehow that felt as though I was in touch with another time period, doing what so many other women have done before me. I knit for myself, for my nieces, and my friends. It’s
a wonderful feeling to give a gift that I made especially for a person I love.
I collect yarn. It’s a hazard of this craft. If you love yarn, check out Webs in Northampton, MA. Once you see their website or visit the store, you’ll completely understand why I have a growing stash.
I like to experiment with my knitting. I find a pattern that I like, and then change it up to make it mine. An added ruffle, a little shaping in the waist, the addition of felted wool balls–these extemporaneous additions fulfill my need to create my own designs. In short, this makes me feel good about myself.
Right now I’m working on a scarf, knitting a lace pattern with hand-dyed fingering wool. I know I could sell this one. I’ve lost track of how many scarves that I’ve sold, most of them, surprisingly, through the Dragonfly Center in San Diego. If you’re interested in purchasing this scarf or
other items I’ve created, email me at hbarryus@yahoo.com. I’ll gladly send images of completed projects, or knit something to your specifications.
